Excerpt from the Prologue:
"In the room they
had chairs of two colors, red and blue. They arranged the chairs
randomly in the room. When the Bible study group entered the room,
the people would randomly sit in either a blue chair or a red chair.
Those sitting in blue chairs would be treated with the greatest
kindness and respect. Their ideas and thoughts would be carefully
considered by the leaders and they would be shown the maximum love
and compassion. When those who were sitting in red chairs spoke,
their ideas and thoughts would be dismissed. They would be ignored as
much as possible. They would be answered tersely, if at all.
"As expected, the
people sitting in the red chairs became frustrated and upset. Joe
told me that one woman who sat in a red chair was so angry that she
never forgave him. But that isn't the interesting part. The
interesting part is this: the people sitting in the blue chairs had
no idea that anything was happening. They thought that everyone in
the room was receiving the exact same treatment. People who were in
the privileged group were not even aware of their privileged status!"
